Children's Halloween Party Ideas

Kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens, love to celebrate Halloween. The fun of masquerading as someone (or something) else for a day encourages them to use their creativity and imagination. There are many reasons to host a Halloween party, whether it’s in addition to, or instead of, trick-or-treating. Maybe one of your kids is celebrating a birthday on or around Halloween. Whatever the inspiration for your event, we have some great children's Halloween party ideas for you.

Activities

When planning a kids Halloween party, there’s no end to the creative possibilities. Consider hosting a daytime party, especially for younger kids and those who plan to go trick-or-treating at night. If the weather permits, have outdoor activities like a scary scavenger hunt or traditional games like bobbing for apples. Organize yard games with a Halloween or autumn theme, and hang a piñata filled with Halloween candy.

Dress up

Let the costumes be the main attraction of the party. Have a costume contest with prizes for the scariest, funniest, and most creative outfits. Lead a parade around your yard or your neighborhood for everyone to show off his or her costumes. As far as crafts and other activities, the age of your guests can be your guide.

Food

What kind of food should you serve? Keep it simple! Consider offering sandwiches or pizza, something to fill them up in preparation for a few hours of trick-or-treating. Otherwise, you could serve light snacks and finger foods. You can’t go wrong with fruits and vegetables with dips, cheese and crackers, or finger sandwiches, followed by fun Halloween-themed desserts.

Decorations

Decorations can range from fun to spooky. Think bats, pumpkins, witches, and spiders. Be sure to have appropriate music, too, whether it’s a collection of scary sounds or a mix of fun party music.
