Trick or Treating Safety Tips
Here are some tips for your trick or treating adventures tomorrow!
The FDA posted an article on Halloween food safety for parents. They suggest what you probably already know... make it clear with your kids that they should avoid snacking while trick-or-treating so you can inspect their goody bags (of course, it helps if they don't leave on an empty stomach). Once home, be sure nothing is eaten that isn't commercially wrapped. For the rest of their tips, you can read their entire article here.
The CDC created a cute acronym using "SAFE HALLOWEEN". Their simple reminders included:
S - Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible.
A - Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
F - Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
E - Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.
